The Journey of Nihar Foundation (2008–2025)

The Humble Beginnings: A Personal Mission to Serve (2008–2009)In 2008, a vision was born not from a desk or a boardroom, but from the heart of Hon. Chairman Hrdpsinh Gohil, affectionately known as Gohilsirji. This was not an organization at first but a calling, an impulse driven by compassion and the urgent need to make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged. At that time, Gujarat’s rural communities were grappling with extreme poverty, lack of access to education, inadequate healthcare, and limited social support. Inspired by a deep empathy for the marginalized, Gohilsirji began visiting these communities, taking personal responsibility for their challenges.

With no formal setup or organizational backing, he started providing food for the hungry, distributing clothes, arranging free health camps, and offering emotional support to those suffering. He was not a man with resources but a man with a vision to turn his compassion into action.Though the work began without any recognition, his ability to bring together small groups of volunteers, fundraisers, and social workers soon sparked a wave of goodwill. By 2009, his actions were no longer just a local initiative; they had become a growing movement that reached the most neglected pockets of Gujarat.

A Nationwide Expansion: Spreading the Message of Hope (2010–2020)From 2010 onwards, Gohilsirji’s work began to reach new heights. His understanding of human suffering and his resolve to alleviate it led to a broader vision. While initially serving small villages, slums, and local communities in Gujarat, his focus expanded to the entire Indian subcontinent.By 2012, the vision for Nihar Foundation evolved to address more urgent and widespread issues. With a deep belief in empowering the youth through education and skill development, the foundation launched various school programs, scholarship initiatives, and vocational training workshops.

This created sustainable pathways for children, women, and marginalized communities to build better lives for themselves.Meanwhile, Gohilsirji had become a trusted donor and advisor for many NGOs across India. He provided funding, strategic guidance, and mentorship to numerous social organizations, helping them scale and achieve greater impact. He believed that the collective power of multiple NGOs was stronger than any individual entity, and this collaborative approach was key to broader change.Throughout this decade, Nihar Foundation remained an informal initiative — the work was what mattered most. In parallel, Gohilsirji’s contributions to various health, education, and women’s empowerment projects marked a steady progression in his larger social mission. The message was simple — service above self.

The Rise of a Global Movement: A Vision Beyond Borders (2021–2024)The years from 2021 to 2024 marked a defining shift in the Foundation’s trajectory. As the world witnessed economic and social disruptions, particularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for collective action became even more apparent. In response, Nihar Foundation made a significant move towards international expansion, taking its mission to the global stage.Gohilsirji’s vision was now worldwide. By partnering with local organizations and governments, Nihar Foundation began implementing programs that reached countries beyond India.

With focus areas such as disaster relief, healthcare, education for displaced children, and sustainable agriculture in countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, the UAE, and Canada, the Foundation’s impact grew exponentially. Each quarter brought new regions, new opportunities, and new people whose lives were touched by the Foundation’s efforts.Among the many international milestones, one of the Foundation’s most significant achievements was its women empowerment initiative in Kenya, where thousands of women received vocational training and micro-loans to support their entrepreneurial endeavors. In Bangladesh, the Foundation spearheaded a project to provide safe drinking water to rural villages facing water scarcity. In Nepal, Nihar Foundation built over 50 homes for families affected by natural disasters, providing them with shelter, stability, and hope for the future. In every country, the message was clear — “Together, we can make a difference.

From advocating for climate action to promoting gender equality, Nihar Foundation's global network of volunteers, partners, and contributors worked tirelessly to uplift humanity, wherever help was needed. The Official Formation: Nihar Foundation as a Registered Organization (2025)In May 2025, after nearly two decades of tireless, impactful service, Nihar Foundation was officially registered as a Section 8 non-profit organization under Indian law. While the name Nihar Foundation had been informally associated with many of Gohilsirji's humanitarian projects for years, this formalization was a critical step in strengthening the organization’s reach, credibility, and ability to scale. Now, with a legal structure, a well-defined team, and financial backing, Nihar Foundation was able to expand its operations globally, providing a platform for people worldwide to come together and contribute to social causes.

From rural education programs to clean water initiatives to emergency disaster relief, the Foundation remains a beacon of hope in over 20 countries.Today, Nihar Foundation stands as a testament to one person’s commitment to service. It is more than an organization; it is a movement, a global network, and a family that stands united in the spirit of compassion, kindness, and humanity.
